Los Angeles has in the neighborhood of 25,000 restaurants. Trust me, I have tried a good number of them but still have a long way to go. I always look forward to the twice-a-year DineLA Restaurant Week, which takes place in January and July each year. DineLA is sponsored by Discover Los Angeles, the LA Tourism and Convention Board, and offers participating restaurants the opportunity to showcase a two or three-course prix fixe lunch or dinner menu, or both if they so choose. Restaurants from the Valley to the South Bay to Pasadena and Calabasas take part in the two week event.
I find it fun to peruse the menus from more than 300 restaurants to see what they have put together especially for DineLA. I visit at least one restaurant, sometimes more, during this time. I always pick a place that I’ve never been to, and I especially choose restaurants that might otherwise be out of our budget. Past favorites have been Beverly Hill’s 75-year landmark Lawry’s Prime Rib and Wolfgang Puck’s Chinois on Main in Santa Monica. I also try to give neighborhood restaurants a visit, like the new Circa in Manhattan Beach and Ford’s Filling Station in Culver City (where I discovered some of the best butterscotch pudding ever). DineLA Restaurant Week runs January 20 thru Friday January 31, 2014 so take a few minutes to peruse your delicious options and happy dining!
