Tucked on an overlooked stretch of road near the Airport Post Office, behind all the Century Boulevard Hotels, sits Aliki’s Greek Taverna. If you’re looking for some of the best Greek food in Los Angeles, look no further than Aliki’s. And if you have a stopover at one of the LAX hotels, you could actually walk to Aliki’s if you wanted to stretch your legs after a long flight. TOURific Escapes keeps a PO Box at the Airport Post Office, and decided to pay a visit to Aliki’s for a quick lunch recently. While Matt ordered the gyro sandwich with a side of thick, velvety hummus, I ordered soup and salad.
The Avgolemono Soup was amazing!! If you’re wondering what kind of soup this is, look closely and you’ll see the word “lemon” in the name. This is a traditional Greek lemon and rice soup, made with chicken stock and eggs to form the base of the soup. The cup I had at Aliki’s was perfect. Such a pretty shade of yellow, dotted with scallions and bits of rice. Each spoonful gave me a lovely lemony flavor. It was comforting and so flavorful, and I wished I had ordered a bowl instead of a cup. For that reason, I am declaring the Avgolemono Soup at Aliki’s Greek Taverna near LAX as my best bite of the week!
