I’ve been trying to get to Bludso’s Bar and Que ever since they opened on La Brea Boulevard, just south of Melrose. We drive right by it after our Hollywood Sites & Bites Tour. But up until two weeks ago they were only open for dinner. Alas, they are now open for lunch 7 days a week. Expanding from their original Compton location, their specialty is what else but barbecued meats including brisket, chicken, pork ribs, pulled pork, hot links and more. There are several sides to choose from and some soft drinks that I may have to try on a future visit like Big Red and Cheerwine.
Matt chose a pork rib sandwich with mac & cheese and baked beans. I opted for a two-meat plate of brisket and pulled pork so we could have a nice variety. My sides were coleslaw and potato salad with a dash of paprika. Our server brought us both a mild and hot sauce, though in my opinion both were quite hot. I loved the silver serving trays. You can see here our nice smorgasbord that was so plentiful we actually took some home. The meat was so tender and flavorful that the hot sauces really weren’t needed. The sides were tasty and just the right amount to accompany the meat. I have heard good things about dessert, and that peach cobbler was tempting, but on this visit I was just interested in savory. I rarely dine at restaurants more than once but I will be back here for more. I am declaring our BBQ at Bludso’s in Hollywood my best bite of the week.
