Sunday I attended the Junior League of Los Angeles’ 14th Annual Harvest Boutique, which is a special event filled with holiday cheer, shopping, champagne, lunch and more. The Harvest Boutique is always a time to reflect on the good work that League members do all year, and celebrate the League’s mission of leadership training for women and improving the community through direct service projects. This year two worthwhile Sustainer members were honored for their work in the League and in the Los Angeles community.
You may recognize this beautiful piece of red velvet cake as being a creation from SusieCakes bakery. SusieCakes Founder Susan Sarich was honored with the JLLA Community Achievement Award. And that meant cake for everyone at the luncheon! Susan opened her first bakery in Brentwood in 2006 and now has eight lovely locations in both Northern and Southern California, with the recent announcement of a Marina Del Rey shop opening in 2014! Not only are her cakes, cupcakes and other desserts pretty to look at, but they are downright moist and delicious, thanks to the treasured recipe cards Susan inherited from her two grandmothers. Congratulations to Susan and SusieCakes, and thanks for the generous slices of your wonderful red velvet cake, which I’m declaring my best bite of the week!
