Matt and I spent the Sunday of the Labor Day weekend visiting good friends who just relocated to Carpinteria, which is adjacent to Santa Barbara. To cool off on that warm September evening, they took us to McConnell’s Ice Cream in downtown Santa Barbara where there were a good 20 people in line ahead of us at 9:30pm. That gave me plenty of time to review the flavor menu and strategize on my samples and my potential scoop. We were warned that with so many customers in line it might be frowned upon to request as many samples as we let our guests have at Mashti Malone’s.
So I sampled only two flavors, Churros con Leche and Chocolate Covered Strawberries. Both were good, but I really had my hopes set on the Salted Caramel Chip. Lately I’ve been favoring caramel over chocolate and this combined them both, but with a stronger salted caramel flavor. I was not disappointed! Such a lovely combination, and a very generous scoop. At $4.25 for a single scoop you want to feel like you’re getting a bit more for your money. I’m already plotting out how soon I can go back to visit, and for that reason I’m declaring McConnell’s Salted Caramel Chip ice cream as my best bite of the week!
