I just spent a glorious week on the Southern Oregon Coast in the little town of Bandon, population 3,000. The purpose of the visit was to celebrate my mom’s birthday, attend her Red Hat luncheon, and also to join my parents on their annual salmon fishing trip led by a seasoned Fishing Guide. Before I go any further, I want to share (brag) that I caught the first, the most and the biggest fish on the boat. My second fish-a Chinook Salmon-weighed 28 pounds and took me almost 10 minutes to reel in! I think I earned a few bragging rights, don’t you?
In addition to these two great events, we spent a lot of time, cooking, baking and enjoying the little town’s many varied restaurants. Our meals out ranged from a greasy spoon to a hotel casino to a quaint bakery to an intimate Italian bistro. But it was lunch at the chocolate boutique Coastal Mist that made my weekly best list. Over the years I have enjoyed their chocolates, pastries, drinking chocolate and caramel, but never tried their lunch specials. This visit my parents and I made an appointment for lunch (no reservations required) so we could visit with owners Tara and Kevin. The ham sandwich on their homemade pretzel bread was love at first bite. The bread was soft and salty and just the perfect color. You can see here how pretty it was. And it tasted just like it looked. So for this reason I am declaring the Pretzel Bread Ham Sandwich as my best bite of the week!
