If you happen to find yourself in Westwood near the UCLA campus, and if you have some time on your hands, you’ll want to have pizza at 800 Degrees on Lindbrook Drive. 800 Degrees has been in business since 2011 and we just tried their pizza for the first time on Super Bowl Sunday. Not for lack of trying. I’ve gone by on at least two other occasions but the line was so long I wasn’t able to wait.
Calling themselves a Neapolitan Pizzeria, their thin crust pizza (my favorite) is made with only flour, salt, water and yeast. The tomatoes are California grown and their mozzarella is made especially for them right here in Los Angeles.
Adding to the charm of this popular pizzeria is that you get to watch your pizza being built (similar to watching your Subway sandwich being assembled) on a long-handled wooden pallet before it goes into the 800 degree wood-burning oven. After only one minute your pizza is ready: soft and chewy with a little black char on the crust. It was a very good pizza, one of the best I’ve found in Los Angeles. Of course we’re partial to Mozza since they are a tasting stop on our Hollywood tour. But if you like Umami Burger, and you’re near UCLA , you’ll want to check out the pizza at 800 Degrees in Westwood. Why? Adam Fleischman is the entrepreneur behind both places. The man knows both burgers AND pizza!
