I was very excited to meet a Tour Guide friend for a bite to eat at The Kettle in Manhattan Beach recently. When she had to cancel, I decided to head on down there to stroll around and grab a bite to eat anyway. As luck would have it, Manhattan Beach was having a sidewalk sale, so I wandered around the main streets (Highland and Manhattan Beach Boulevard) and enjoyed a beautiful sunny day amidst both locals and tourists. As I walked past one of my favorite gift shops, Tabula Rasa, I noticed a new place called Paradise Bowls, and saw several hip, stylish teens and young adults eating fruit from these big bowls. So I took a peek inside, perused the menu and decided to make my dinner a healthy one.
The owners are college friends who both had careers with Major League Baseball teams. They wanted to introduce the “superfruits” that athletes rely on for their healthy diets, to the South Bay. Each bowl is made with either acai or pitaya, plus a variety of other fruits blended to make sort of a slushy base, topped with more healthy goodies. I ordered the Manhattan Peach: blended acai, peaches, strawberries, bananas and apple juice and topped with bananas, strawberries, granola and honey. The fruit was so fresh, it made a beautiful, colorful presentation in the bowl and I felt healthy from the first bite to the last. So…I’m declaring the Manhattan Peach Paradise Bowl as my best bite of the week! And with such clever names, I have to go back and try the Chocolate Tide and the Guava Pipeline
