It is no secret that we at TOURific Escapes dine out more than most of our friends and families. Part of the joy of being in the food tour business is doing what we call “research”. We take great pleasure in dining around Los Angeles so that we can share our experiences with our tour guests. We dine in a variety of neighborhoods and in a variety of price points. Every year we look forward to dineLA Restaurant Week which is sponsored by Discover Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board. It takes place every January and July. This year there were approximately 250 Los Angeles area restaurants participating. With so many fabulous prix-fixe lunch and dinner options, you can imagine the time we took to peruse the restaurant list and menus. We selected 27 (yes 27!) restaurants that we have been wanting to try but not gotten the chance. Then when the week rolled around things got busy and we only made it to just one dineLA dinner.

Dia de Campo is a newish Mexican eatery in Hermosa Beach just steps from the popular Hermosa Pier. I had first read about it in Westways Magazine, published by AAA, and just never seemed to get there. The article emphasized their attention to seafood, which I don’t eat, but the other half of TOURific does. So when I saw Dia de Campo’s dineLA dinner menu, I knew we would both love it. Most restaurants offer a three-course menu for dinner, but Dia de Campo was one of a handful that offered four courses for $50 (not including tax, gratuity and drinks). I was so full from my first three courses I could actually have passed on dessert, but when have I ever done such a thing? A Grilled Romaine Salad was followed by a Chocolate Duck Quesadilla (both fabulous!) and then my main course was a very meaty and tasty Short Rib Empanada. You can understand why I was full, but I just had to try the Potted Tres Leches dessert, which was worth every bite, and so pretty to photograph. I am already waiting for July to roll around for the next installment of dineLA Restaurant Week!
