Even though I have a long list of restaurants on my must-visit list, every now and again I love revisiting an old favorite. In my quest to see every movie nominated for Best Picture for the upcoming Academy Awards, I visited the Landmark Theatre on Pico Boulevard, that is part of Westside Pavillion. The movie ended at 6:45pm, just in time for dinner in the nearby area. I was accompanied by a friend visiting from Florida and when I suggested burgers at The Apple Pan, she was all over it.
The Apple Pan has been serving great food since 1947. They have a limited menu that never changes, and that is truthfully part of the charm. Every time you go there, you know what you’re going to get: a burger or sandwich, French fries and pie. And don’t forget a soda (my choice is always Root Beer) in one of those old-fashioned paper cups. When we walked in just before 7:00pm, we immediately got seats at the counter (which doesn’t always happen, especially on weekends) and were happily munching a plate of crispy fries in minutes. Our Steak Burgers were just as I remember, hot and juicy and full of flavor thanks in part to their trademark hamburger relish. Almost passed up dessert, but when Terry suggested splitting an Apple Pie a la Mode, who was I to refuse? My dinner at Apple Pan on Pico Boulevard is being declared my best bite of the week!
