The summer season says peach pie! It says a lot of other things but when I think of pie, I think peach. The first three years I lived in Los Angeles, Santa Monica was my neighborhood and Polly’s Pies was just down the street. Lots of my weekend company got treated to breakfast at Polly’s Pies, specifically their Cinnamon Roll French Toast. I also enjoyed lunches, dinners and dessert from Polly’s. When it was announced that Polly’s Pies was closing for a Panera Bread to move in, I was heartbroken. People told me that Polly’s Pies had other locations in Long Beach, but somehow it did not have the same appeal as being two blocks from my apartment. In looking online today, I see at least 16 Polly’s Pies locations around the South Land from Orange County to the Inland Empire.

So let me tell you about my best bite of the week. I was in the charming Long Beach neighborhood of Bixby Knolls for a networking event, and what did I see just down the street from my meeting but a Polly’s Pies! The joy I felt was overwhelming, which seems silly but if you know me, you know how much joy good food brings me. Especially good food that is tied to fond memories! Until I have time to come back and sit down for a proper breakfast, a piece of pie to-go would have to do. The signage out front suggested strawberry or peach, and the peach won! There were 3 different peach pies to choose from, but I went with the double crust and shared the generous slice with Matt once I got home and warmed it back up. Now I’ve had good pie around town from DuPar’s to Jongewaard’s Bake n Broil (also in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood) but Polly’s Peach Pie just can’t be beat on a warm summer day. I’m happy to announce Polly’s Peach Pie as my best bite of the week! Mmmm, the taste of summertime!
