Growing up I was never a fan of pumpkin pie. In fact, it’s still not my pie of choice, but now I enjoy a slice occasionally. It seems something has happened in recent years with a plethora of pumpkin food products being available during the months of October and November. Let’s take Trader Joe’s for example. I counted 46 items with pumpkin in the title: pumpkin waffles, pumpkin bagels, pumpkin brittle, pumpkin ravioli, etc. You get the idea. And people are eating it up! I admit that there is something comforting about pumpkins at this time of year, whether using them for décor or as part of an afternoon snack. The scent, the color, the taste. I keep a little jar of TJ’s Pumpkin Pie Spice mix by the coffee maker, and create my own flavored coffee in the mornings. So now about my best bite…

You may know that my tour company offers Chocolate Tours, and I have the pleasure of scheduling some market research before each tour. Our most recent addition, Chocolate Tour West, features the talents of five female entrepreneurs between Culver City, Mar Vista and Venice. Last week as I was putting the finishing touches on a private tour for a group celebrating a Bachelor Party, I found my best bite of the week! Sinners and Saints is a dessert shop that features a beautiful array of regular (Sinners) and gluten-free (Saints) desserts. Elisa, the lovely owner of Sinners & Saints, really gets into the spirit of the season, from the moment you walk into her cozy space. Since she had adopted out all her Skeleton Gingerbread Boys for the day, I noticed pretty little loaves of pumpkin bread generously dotted with chocolate chips. And I just had to have one. And it changed my life. It may even be better than my special Mabel G’s pumpkin cookies from Alaska. I had to use some restraint not to eat the little loaf in one sitting. The ONLY thing that would have made this better is if I had enjoyed one of Elisa’s Nutella Lattes along with it. Sinners and Saints, thanks for my best bite of the week. And let me know when I can adopt my Skeleton Boy!
