The Dining Terrace at Westfield Culver City is certainly not your standard mall food court. Oh sure, they offer some of the typical choices you’ve come to expect in a shopping mall food court: Sbarro, Panda Express, Burger King. But LA Times food critic Jonathan Gold had pretty high praise in this LA Weekly article, of the variety of eateries found at the former Fox Hills Mall. Built in 1975, LA’s first 3-story shopping mall has undergone a major renovation and facelift recently, with the addition of a Target among other welcome additions, like Five Guys Burgers & Fries.

When my Culver City based friend FP and I recently met for dinner, I suggested we meet at the Dining Terrace at Westfield Culver City to check it out. And then of course a visit to Macy’s or Sephora or Target would be in order. At the Dining Terrace, we found stalls offering a variety of cuisine from Asian (Mongolian Grill, Sushi, Pho) to Italian (the designated Sbarro) to Mexican (Chipotle) and even Hawaiian and Creole cuisine. But it was the focaccia bread at Stone Oven Gourmet Sandwiches & Salads that appealed to us. Several round loaves sat on the edge of the open-fire oven, just waiting for us. So we shared a nice-sized salad and a sandwich made with this wonderful hot, fresh seasoned bread. The potato salad that we got as a side with the sandwich was fantastic too!

The best part is that Westfield Culver City is not far from home, and I discovered a somewhat unknown back parking lot behind Target, where there is always plenty of space. After reading the LA Weekly article in entirety, I have a few new places to dine on future visits to my neighborhood shopping mall!
