This has been one HOT summer. You’d think with all my complaining that I forgot I grew up in central California where our regular summer temps were in the 90’s and 100’s. To beat the recent So Cal heat I’ve been treating myself to cool ice-creamy desserts. The place that came to mind: Paciugo Gelato & Caffe in Hermosa Beach. Years ago I had tried their gelato from a little push-cart at a local Farmer’s Market and it never left my mind. However, I don’t seem to get to Hermosa very often, until recently when I was there three times in one week!
Paciugo offered samples, so I tried several unique and traditional flavors. I’ll admit to not being a fan of Mashti Malone’s Lavender ice cream, but Paciugo’s Violet gelato was pretty to look at and pretty to eat. The Honey Fig-Ginger was another good one, as well as Brown Sugar Waffle Cone. Of course I ended up with a scoop of one of my favorites, Sea Salt Caramel. You can get up to three flavors in a small cup, which is nice for the price. According to their website, gelato has 70% less fat than ice cream, so I think I’ll have another scoop!
