It seems only fitting that during this season of Girl Scout cookie sales, the girls in uniform are celebrating their founding in Savannah, Georgia 100 years ago this week. I was a Girl Scout. So was Katie Couric, Reese Witherspoon and Dakota Fanning. My Girl Scout troop #77 took me on my first outdoor camping experience and also taught me how to make the beloved fireside treat S’mores!
I ordered a few boxes of cookies from my neighbor Caressa and she proudly showed up in her uniform to make our delivery. Do you know when the troops first started selling cookies in 1917 they were homemade and cost 15 cents a dozen? Now more than 200 million boxes are sold annually at a price tag of $4.00 a box. Long live the Girl Scouts whose motto is building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Indeed, thanks girls for making my world a better place with those Thin Mint cookies!
