New Coffee shops in Los Angeles

I often mention that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and along with that goes a good cup of coffee!  I am always in search of the newest coffee shops and breakfast dishes in Los Angeles.  I have discovered some real gems recently that left an impression on me so I would like to share them with you.

I’ve been reading about the arrival of coffee shops that combine plants, flowers and other gift items which make them extremely popular for social media posting.   Two such Los Angeles arrivals that I have discovered recently are Flowerboy Project on Lincoln Boulevard in Venice and Clove Coffee Garden on Pico near La Brea.

Flowerboy Project has a beautiful display of fresh flowers greeting you on the sidewalk as you enter the shop.  One wall is lined with dried flowers and other products for sale, including postcards, greeting cards and local neighborhood items.  Fun to browse while you are waiting to place your order.  I enjoyed my standby Australian coffee specialty, a Flat White, and saved the floral notes for my toast.  One piece is slathered with a raspberry rose jam and the other is with a lavender peanut butter.  Aren’t they pretty?  And they tasted good too.

Clove Coffee Garden had such a nice welcoming atmosphere with a few plants and succulents for sale.  The barista helped me decide to add a rose flavoring to my iced latte and let me know they were in the midst of changing up their pastry vendor, so there wasn’t anything available the day I was there.  She and I had a good laugh about how sweet other flavored syrups can be, and they work to make theirs tasty with less sugar by using coconut.
Bluestone Lane and Great White are two places representing this new Aussie Café invasion which has been talked about a lot lately.  Bluestone Lane has three new Los Angeles locations and I visited the one on La Brea between Beverly Blvd. and Third Street.  Walking up you are immediately greeted by a soothing blue and white décor.  I ordered my usual Flat White and their Brekkie Board which was a perfect combination of sweet and savory.  A piece of avocado toast paired with their housemade granola bowl.  Perfection!

I first learned about Great White in an Instagram post, their Blue Smoothie Bowl is as pretty and colorful as can be.  But the day I stopped by I was feeling the effects of the Marine Layer and so I wanted something warm.  I tried their Charcoal infused Latte which was very interesting.  Mixed with almond milk and a bit of honey, I’m not sure I tasted actual charcoal but it was indeed a nice taste.
In addition to these new discoveries, I stop in at Philz Coffee as often as I can, which has several locations in Los Angeles, the newest being in El Segundo on Rosecrans Avenue.  Many worthy independent coffee shops along Fairfax Avenue (north of the Original Farmer’s Market) are Cofax, Coffee Commissary and Paramount Coffee Project.  My next new visit is going to be at Coffee Coffee which also serves a few special breakfast items too.
