The El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard is currently home to the much-anticipated Disney movie Oz The Great and Powerful through April 30. This is an experience for Disney fans and Wizard of Oz fans of all ages! Your experience starts out on the sidewalk under the beautifully restored marqee and a visit to James Franco’s star. He received the 2,942nd star on the Walk of Fame just in time for the movie’s premiere! Once inside the theatre’s ornate lobby you are treated to a display of three authentic costumes from the movie, the dresses of all 3 witches: Glinda, Theodora and Evanora.
You’ll make your way up the emerald-green staircase (seriously I thought I was in Oz!) to the upper balcony where there is s a Wall of Fame of photographs dating back to the very beginning of this theatre. There were photos of the 1941 event when the theatre debuted Orson Welles’ Citizen Cane to more recent red carpet events such as Tangled and The Avengers. Every movie at the El Capitan comes with a bonus; Oz came with a live magic show! This was no amateur magic show, and it was short and sweet enough to build excitement for the movie. Then there was Oz, clocking in at two hours and seven minutes. Not a dull moment, and just enough Disney magic to make the movie enchanting. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in Hollywood!
