Whether you are taking a stay-cation or exploring Los Angeles as a visitor, be sure you work in a few hours on historic Olvera Street. Just across the street from Union Station, you’ll find many restaurants offering authentic Mexican cuisine, including La Golondrina Mexicana Café. Built as a home in 1857, La Golondrina is the oldest firebrick building in Los Angeles and has been a restaurant since 1930.
The chips and salsa were great, and so was the strawberry aqua frescas. Even though it was lunch time, I ordered breakfast: huevos rancheros. Perfectly prepared eggs on corn tortillas with a lovely red sauce (not too hot) and rice and beans on the side. A delicious bite and a bit of history too!
