Brunch at Mud Hen Tavern is served

If you’re familiar with our Hollywood Sites & Bites Tour you may remember that Susan Feniger’s STREET was one of the first restaurants to get onboard our new food tour back in August 2010. We were just as surprised as the rest of you when they announced that STREET was closing for a refresh. December 2013 saw the debut of Mud Hen Tavern, at that same familiar spot on Highland just north of Melrose. We have been waiting with baited breath for Susan and Kajsa to offer Weekend Brunch at Mud Hen Tavern. Our desires were finally realized on the first weekend in April.

Every Saturday and Sunday morning is now reserved for Brunch at Mud Hen Tavern from 11:00am to 3:00pm. We wasted no time in making a reservation, and clearly we were not the only ones who had the same idea. The place was packed. It was such fun to see so many familiar faces and some new ones also. Guests always commented how STREET seemed to have the nicest servers, and many of them stayed onboard for the transition. We had invited previous tour guests Angela and Allen to join us, who have now become friends. Between them this brother and sister duo, who are world travelers, have attended our tours 8 times, bringing new friends along each time. They like to eat as much as we do, booking food tours in every new city they visit.

Well, we had our own little food tour at our Brunch table at Mud Hen Tavern that morning. We started with a variety of beverages from breakfast cocktails to green tea, accompanied by an order (and then a second order) of Susan’s famous Kaya Toast. We were very happy that this dish made the transition to the Mud Hen Brunch menu. We shared everything we ordered so that we could sample more of the brunch items. Green Eggs & Ham, Beef Brisket Hash, the Hangover Burger, Chicken & Waffle Croquettes, Cheddar & Bacon Biscuits with warm Maple Butter, and to finish the meal Caramel Apple Donuts. We received a surprise and very special visit at our table by both Susan and Kajsa, who left their posts in the busy kitchen to say hello! Our server happily offered up suggestions for our next visit, and we took note. We will certainly be having Brunch at Mud Hen Tavern again soon and look forward to introducing our guests to their delicious new menu too.
