Celebrity Insider shares his best movies of 2015

food, tour, hollywood

I’ve seen around 200 movies this year – which is about average. When, like me, you’re a voter in several of the major film awards it’s important to make sure you see everything in contention. Plus, there’s an added bonus.  When guests on my Movie Locations Tour ask me which are the good films to see, they know they are getting the information from someone who has truly evaluated everything out there.

However, opinions are like belly buttons, everyone has one. The things I like aren’t going to please everyone. But all I can do is give my highest recommendation to the ones I enjoyed so much that I chose to see these films a second time, even with all the other things to watch.

Five movies fell into that category this year and three of them happen to be about musicians. Straight Outta Compton about the rise of LA rap group NWA, Love and Mercy about Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and, best of all, Danny Collins starring Al Pacino as a fictional singer trying to reconnect with the family he abandoned years earlier. I loved the largely overlooked romance film The Age of Adeline starring Blake Lively and a “best he’s been in years” Harrison Ford.  Also terrific was the Rocky reboot Creed with Sylvester Stallone, this time the trainer of a new boxing hopeful.

All these films were emotional and dramatic, much like the Movie Locations Tour.

Moving beyond best picture to the performance categories I thought by far the best acting done this year was by my fellow Brit Tom Hardy in the crime biopic Legend in which he played both of London’s most notorious gangsters, the Kray Twins. He also impressed this year in Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant. There’s been lots of talk that Tom might be the next James Bond – and that’s a good shout. But whatever he does next, I look forward to seeing it.
