Dining at Sherman’s Deli & Bakery in Palm Springs

There are many wonderful reasons that I love being in the foodie-tourism field.  One of them is the fact that I get to share ideas of places to visit and have a meal when traveling.  I have enjoyed meals in Hawaii, San Diego and Minneapolis thanks to suggestions from guests on my Sites & Bites tour, and most recently in Palm Springs.  Whenever we enjoy our tasting at Greenblatt’s Deli on Sunset Boulevard, it brings up memories of other great delicatessens that our guests have enjoyed, with one of them being Sherman’s Deli & Bakery in Palm Springs.  Matt and I made a very quick two day trip to Palm Springs for a special event and I was so excited to see that Sherman’s Deli was just down the street within walking distance of our hotel.  Now if you know me well, you may remember my vow to never dine at the same restaurant twice.  Mostly so I can expand my dining experiences and explore as many foodie spots as possible.  BUT…lunch was so good at Sherman’s Deli that I broke my rule and we went back for breakfast.

Sherman’s Deli actually has two locations in the desert area, Palm Desert and Palm Springs.  The location that we visited in Palm Springs is on Tahquitz Canyon, just around the corner from all the action on Palm Canyon Drive.  Sherman’s Deli bills itself as a kosher-style family restaurant so of course for lunch I had to order my traditional (and favorite) pastrami on rye and matzo ball soup.  Luckily they offer a “Lite Lunch Special” which is anything but light…it was a lot of food.  I also munched on their wonderful coleslaw and crunchy pickles.  The service was outstanding, very friendly and efficient.  I truly tried to find a different breakfast spot for the next morning, but being a Monday many places were closed and I just really wanted to try Sherman’s breakfast food…and also get something from the bakery counter!  Matt opted for the Chef’s Special which was Eggs any way, French Toast and bacon.  I opted for their homemade Corned Beef Hash which came with two eggs, country potatoes and toast (sourdough).  Delicious, every bite.  And I even had a small bite of Matt’s yummy French toast!  For the ride home, we each got a rugelach from the bakery case.  Sherman’s Deli was a delight for breakfast and for lunch.  I just may have to go back on the next visit to Palm Springs to try the meatloaf or the potato latkes.  Or maybe the brisket…
