Dining in LA~My Best Bite of the Week: Kendall’s Brasserie

This week my best bite is a three-way tie.  I enjoyed three different and delicious dishes at Kendall’s Brasserie.  It was my first visit to this special-occasion French eatery tucked beneath The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at The Music Center in downtown Los Angeles.  My friend Paula and I were attending a movie as part of the Los Angeles Conservancy’s Last Remaining Seats.  Every year this program presents iconic films at the glorious historic theatres downtown during the month of June.  This was actually the first time a movie (My Fair Lady) was shown at the Dorothy Chandler, both debuting in 1964.

Let me get back to my best bites.  My first course was the Soupe du jour, Butternut Squash with a drop of pumpkin seed oil in the center.  Oh so good.  Then I decided to try the Lemon-Thyme Risotto, because as much as I love this dish, it is either hit or miss.  This risotto was like summer in a spoon, with peas, sweet corn, radiccio and the tiniest hint of red piquillo peppers.  A definite hit!

I’m always one to order dessert and luckily Paula was game, so we shared the Baked Apple Tart:  soft, warm apples on a paper-thin pastry crust, drizzled with caramel sauce and topped with vanilla ice cream.  It was truly the icing on the cake!  This is one of the best meals I’ve had from start to finish in a while, so I’m declaring these three dishes from Kendall’s my best bites of the week!
