Dining in Los Angeles~My Best Bite of the Week: The Tripel Burger
Matt and I are regular followers of Bravo’s Top Chef. Whether it’s Top Chef Masters or Top Chef Texas or Top Chef All-Stars, we tune-in on Wednesday night. Top Chef Season 10 just wrapped up, with a local girl making it to the finale and coming in as the runner-up. Brooke Williamson made a better than decent showing all season long, and in our household was favored to win. When we learned she owns a restaurant called The Tripel in Playa del Rey, we paid a visit on the evening of the grand finale to lend support. Brooke was in New York, but we met her husband and son and had a really enjoyable evening with some very friendly locals. It’s a VERY small place with communal tables and seats at the bar.
The Tripel was named for both the street address (333 Culver Boulevard) and also one of their many ales. Matt had a Hefferveisen and I had TWO drinks, which is rare for me. I enjoyed a white sangria followed by their Peach Bellini, which both happen to be among my favorite drinks. But it was The Tripel Burger that stopped us in our tracks. Let me just take the description right off the menu: duck confit, pork and aged beef on an onion brioche bun with truffle pecorino, arugula and house-made apricot jam. We shared one, and ate it so quicky I did not get a photo. Trust me when I say it was amazing, and next time I’ll order a whole burger for myself. The Tripel Burger was my best bite of the week!
