Dining in LA-My Best Bite of the Week: Breakfast at Rose Cafe in Venice

It has been quite some time since I’ve had breakfast at Rose Café in Venice.  I recently met a friend there for an early Sunday morning breakfast.  I forgot they have their own parking lot with reasonable pricing; the first hour free and $3 for the first hour after that.  If you know Venice, you know it can be maddening finding parking so this got my breakfast meeting off to a good start.  After cups of coffee were placed in front of us, my friend decided on Eggs Benedict Florentine (served on a bed of spinach instead of Canadian bacon) and I almost ordered an egg-white Frittata, but then something else caught my eye.  Poached eggs with Market Vegetables.

Something about it just spoke to me, and it was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a while.  (At least since Dinah’s Chicken & Waffles last week!)  The eggs were cooked medium, which is just how I like them, and they were done perfectly.  They sat on a bed of colorfully roasted vegetables; specifically corn, asparagus, carrots and cherry tomatoes.  But what really set the dish apart was the lemon-balsamic vinaigrette that the veggies were lightly tossed in.  The lemon flavor was so bright and refreshing, it was a really surprising bonus to the dish.  There was also a nice little slice of Rosemary toast that complemented the plate.  I read recently that Rose Café is set to close in 2015 and reopen under new management with a different concept.  So if you want a chance to enjoy a delicious breakfast at Rose Café, you may want to head there sooner than later.  And…I’m declaring Rose Cafe’s Poached Eggs with Market Vegetables my best bite of the week!
