Dining in LA-My Best Bite of the Week: Lasagna Verde

You may know that I keep a “restaurant list” of places that I want to try.   On this list are a wide variety of cuisines including restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream parlors and more.  One restaurant that’s been on my list for a long time is Angelini Osteria on Beverly Boulevard.  What is an Osteria, you ask?  It’s an Italian restaurant, typically a simple or inexpensive one (according to my Google search).  We recently received a $50 dining cheque from our many reservations on Open Table, and I suggested to Matt that it was time to pay this well-regarded Osteria a visit.

The dish I’ve heard the most buzz about is the Lasagna Verde “Omaggio Nonna Elvira” with Beef and Veal Ragu.  This “homage to grandma Elvira” was a beautifully layered lasagna with the traditional pasta, meat and cheese but with a decidedly “green” hue as you can see in the photo.   This was a most enjoyable melt-in-your-mouth square of lasagna, with a lovely homemade quality to it.  I’m pretty sure I understood our thickly-accented Italian waiter to say the leaves scattered on the plate were “air-fried” baby spinach.  While they were a perfect accent to the green lasagna, I could have eaten a bowl of them on their own.  Grazia Gino Angelini, I am declaring your Lasagna Verde as my best bite of the week!
