Dining in LA-My Best Bite of the Week: Margarita Cupcake

food, tour, hollywood

Not far from the heart of Hollywood, on the corner of Highland and Lexington used to be a Frosted Cupcakery.  A nice little spot to satisfy your sweet tooth with delicious cupcakes in various sizes.   And then one day it was gone, and in its place was The Confection Co-op.  It took me months to finally pay a visit, but once I did I was very happy, since it brought me my best bite of the week.  But before I get to that, let me share with you what The Confection Co-op is all about.  While there are still other Frosted Cupcakery locations in Los Angeles, this Hollywood location has transitioned to more of a bakeshop.  They still offer the same yummy cupcakes as Frosted, but now they offer coffee from Handsome Coffee Roasters, a nice selection of Coolhaus ice cream, and other bakery items like scones, muffins, oversize cookies and colorful French macarons.

On this visit I was just going to look and not buy, but when the staff mentioned that their June special was a Margarita cupcake, how could I walk away without one?  So I got my one little cupcake and I just could not resist that first bite.  The rest never made it home.   This lovely pale green cupcake did in fact have a solid lime flavor, and I’ll be darned if there wasn’t salt in the frosting.  It was amazing.  I didn’t exactly get a buzz from it, but I would say it was the closest thing to a frozen Margarita in the form of a baked good.  That salty frosting was truly the icing on the cake!  I highly suggest trying this Margarita for yourself, and I may just have to return for another.   So I’m happily declaring the Margarita cupcake from The Confection Co-op in Hollywood as my best bite of the week.
