Dining in LA- My Best Bite of the Week: Pumpkin Creme Brulee

It’s fun getting into the spirit of the Halloween season when you read about specialty desserts like Pumpkin Crème Brulee and  Pumpkin Spice Latte Donut.  Thanks to a recent posting by Eater LA on Spooky Eats, Drinks and Events for Halloween I found one of these specials right in my own backyard at our favorite little Thai restaurant.  Ayara Thai is tucked away in what’s known as the Westchester Triangle near LAX.  Popular with the neighbors and also the nearby corporate lunch crowd, Ayara Thai is known for delicious, authentic food in a variety of spice levels and reasonable, filling lunch specials.  I was introduced to this little gem by my friend Laura when she worked at Neutrogena and I worked at Mattel in El Segundo.

On this particular October evening, Matt and I went in with the end of the meal at the top of our minds.  We did it in the proper order though, with our dinner consisting of soup, chicken curry, special rice, prig king green beans and hot tea.  And then got what we came for:  one little Pumpkin Crème Brulee served in a miniature orange pumpkin.  It was almost too cute to eat, but eat we did.  After capturing several pictures, Matt broke through the glazed caramel layer to the creamy custard inside.  It was amazing how much it resembled pumpkin pie in taste and yet was definitely crème brulee in texture.  Our spoons reached deep into that little gourd to get every bit of the sweet pumpkin goodness.  You’ll want to get to Ayara Thai for this seasonal specialty dessert before it’s too late.  Luckily, Halloween comes around every year.  I’m declaring the Pumpkin Crème Brulee at Ayara Thai as my best bite of the week!
