Dining in LA-My Best Bite of the Week: S’mores from Superba

I’ve had Superba Snack Bar near the top of my Restaurant List for some time now. I have read all about the pasta and small “snack” plates at this cozy little spot on Rose Avenue in Venice Beach, but just never seemed to get that direction. I was hoping to go for brunch someday, but ended up taking a little lunch break mid-week to meet a new friend there. I found out she also keeps a Restaurant List and when we compared notes we realized we had many of the same. Being a fellow South Bay’er, we decided to stick somewhat close to home and try Superba.
Kris had made reservations although on this particular Thursday there were plenty of seats at lunchtime. I understand evenings are a different story. We both ordered pasta, as Superba and Chef Jason Neroni are known for their house made pastas. She opted for a spicier tomato sauce with pulled pork and I got the carbonara with a poached egg. The pasta was good, and there was enough to take home for seconds. But I had heard from a fellow chocolate-lover about their chocolate pudding, so I asked about it. It’s a chocolate budino layered with a sprinkling of sea salt, graham cracker crumbs and homemade toasted marshmallow fluff. It was perfection in a mason jar, and while I was happy to share, I could have eaten one all on my own. So, there you have it, the S’mores at Superba Snack Bar are declared my best bite of the week!
