Dining in LA-My Best Bite of the Week: Watermelon Salad
Doesn’t summer seem like the perfect time to enjoy a watermelon salad? When I saw it on the menu at the newly opened Petros Kafe in El Segundo, I knew I had to order it and Matt was game for trying it too. Looking at this picture you can see how pretty the colors and ingredients work together: watermelon, yellow and red tomatoes, white feta cheese and sprinkles of manouri cheese, and green mint drizzled with Greek honey and olive oil. And it tasted just as delicious and fresh as it looks! We started our dinner with traditional Avgolemono soup, that was chock full of chicken and rice with a generous flavoring of lemon!

We then enjoyed a few plates meant for sharing, traditional lamb meatballs in a tomato sauce with mashed potatoes, and a plate of roast chicken and vegetable skewers on a bed of rice. This came with a side of Tzatziki, yogurt blended with cucumbers, garlic and red wine vinegar. The entire meal was some of the best, tastiest Greek food I’ve had in Los Angeles in some time. And there is so much more that I’d like to try from the menu, including the flatbread pizza and Greek style burger. And we didn’t even look at the dessert menu, which is unusual for us, but we were pleasantly full from our savory bites. I know we will be back to visit Petros Kafe in El Segundo, especially since this is only a 10 minute drive from our home. I am declaring our Sunday evening dinner at Petros Kafe, but particularly that watermelon salad, as my best bite of the week!
