HITTING THE JACKPOT IN SUNNY LOS ANGELES

HITTING THE JACKPOT IN SUNNY LOS ANGELES

By SANDRO MONETTI, Director and Guide of the Celebrity Insider Movie Locations Tour.

I was so honored to be included in a wonderful new coffee table book featuring photographic portraits of British people who have moved to Los Angeles to follow their dreams.  In the upcoming book, called California Dreaming: Real Life Stories of Brits in LA, I compare my new home city to a giant shiny casino – and I certainly feel I’ve hit the jackpot here with the success of my Celebrity Insider Tour with TOUrific Escapes.  Ace photographer Dawn Bowery captured my love of Hollywood by taking my picture for her book in front of the marvelous mural of movie stars on Wilcox Avenue.  To find out how to get a large print of this portrait, or one of the other more illustrious Brits featured within the pages, and learn more about California Dreaming, please visit the book’s crowdfunding page at this link: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/california-dreaming-real-life-stories-of-brits-in-la

While much of the United States shivers in freezing wintry conditions at the moment,  guests on our tours of LA have been enjoying blazing sunshine.  So have I on my time off and I recently enjoyed an afternoon at Paradise Cove – which really lives up to its name and is a place I recommend for a visit.  It’s a golden stretch of sand in beautiful Malibu, there’s a terrific restaurant there and as you can see from this picture, it’s absolutely idyllic.

But when the sun goes down, the TV goes on, at least at my place, and I’m so excited by the return this month of the greatest British show on PBS. No, not Downton Abbey, I mean Sherlock.  The third series of this clever and captivating modern update on Sherlock Holmes can be seen each Sunday night from January 19 and Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are superb as Holmes and Watson.  They are just about Britain’s two biggest movie stars at the moment – Freeman has the lead role in The Hobbit and Cumberbatch has supporting roles in that movie as well as in 12 Years a Slave and August: Osage County – and yet the two of them stay with this TV series.  Long may they continue to do so.  And if you haven’t checked out Sherlock yet, what are you waiting for?

Benedict Cumberbatch was also in Star Trek: Into Darkness last summer where I spotted that the futuristic looking Getty Center art museum in LA was used as the location for Starfleet Academy in San Francisco.  If you come on my Movie Locations Tour you will see filming sites in LA that doubled for everywhere from Morocco to France.  That’s the magic of the movies and the wonder of Hollywood. It’s no surprise they write books about the City of Angels – but it’s a lovely surprise for me to be featured in one of them!

See you on tour,
