Hollywood’s Big Night

Hollywood is abuzz with activity. Hollywood Blvd is closed to traffic. The shops at Hollywood & Highland are closing and being covered with beautiful red draperies. The red carpet will soon be rolled out. What’s the occasion you ask? The 84th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday February 26 of course. I’ll be heading to my friend Becky’s in Manhattan Beach. Can I hear a woo-hoo for friends who like to have parties so weary tour-guides like me can just show up and enjoy the red-carpet fun!

I have to hand it to my friends at the Junior League of Los Angeles (JLLA). They just published their quarterly INSPIRE magazine with a lovely section on Oscar entertaining. I’d like to share a couple of their ideas in case you are thinking of throwing your own soiree:

-Have fun with your set-up (consider rolling out your own red carpet and scatter around some mini Oscar statuettes that can double as favors)
-Download an Oscar ballot at www.Oscar.com and have guests pick the winners, as well as play some movie and/or music trivia
-Have plenty of finger foods and hors d’oeuvres handy for snacking around the TV. Two talented JLLA members share recipes here: Mary Moran of Hail Mary’s Boutique Catering and Julia Swenson of Julia’s Kitchen.

Lastly and maybe most important, have lots of sparkling champagne on hand for Hollywood’s biggest celebration!
