My Weekend with Marilyn

It all began in February when I went to the Westwood Memorial Park to see Marilyn Monroe’s final resting place and met Jackie from the Immortal Marilyn fan club as she was setting up a lovely Valentine’s Day bouquet for MM. I became a member of the club and for the past six months have been learning as much as I can about Marilyn in preparation of her 50th anniversary memorial August 5. I’ve been chatting with people on Facebook from around the world, and made one local friend, Elisa from Long Beach, who has been a fan of MM since she was a little girl watching her on Turner Classic Movies.

The Marilyn fans are unique and sincere, very dedicated to preserving her memory. We come from all corners of the globe and all walks of life. I wasn’t expecting so many Marilyn look-alikes and must say I was quite taken with Memory Monroe, the lovely Claudia from Holland who sews her own gowns. I bought books from beloved authors, toured Marilyn’s “Homes & Haunts”, attended a luncheon in the 20th Century Fox commissary, and sat in awe of a one-woman show “Marilyn, Forever Blonde” in an historic 99-seat theater in North Hollywood. It was a weekend full of new friends, new stories and new admiration for a Hollywood star who unites so many in her legacy.
