A Princess and a Queen

I recently attended the Champagne Brunch on The Queen Mary in Long Beach.  There were diners dressed up in their holiday best, Santa was walking around greeting everyone and there was ALL THAT FOOD.  It was a beautiful spread with all your usual brunch fare and then some.  I am not a seafood eater, but…

The Best Bite I Ate This Week: French Dip

I’ve long been a fan of the French Dipped sandwiches at Philippe.  But it’s all the way over in Chinatown, so I don’t get much occasion to visit.  Recently I had a Tour Guide meeting at Union Station and the only stipulation I had was that we walk to Philippe the Original for lunch after…

Black Friday And The Case Of The Potato Peels

So do you notice that plumbing emergencies always happen on a holiday or a weekend? Well, here’s our story. Mashed potatoes are my favorite side-dish at the Thanksgiving meal. My lovely in-laws always put on a nice dinner for the family but for some reason mashed potatoes aren’t their thing. After two years of suffering in silence, a few weeks ago I announced that I hoped they didn’t mind but I was bringing mashed potatoes. My very sweet husband Matt who is the cook in our family (I am the baker) did some research on the Food Network and came up with not one but two versions of mashed potatoes. Where did he put all those potato peels? In the garbage disposal of course. Well picture this: pots and pans everywhere, the counter tops filled with remnants from my baking…

Warner Bros. Studio Tour

Research is a fun part of my work week! We are often asked by our tour guests which of the studio tours we recommend. The Warner Bros. VIP Tour was still on our list, and we made a last minute decision to visit on a warm October afternoon. The tour started and ended in their…

Following the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck

I get so many food-related emails that I sometimes forget what I read where. Maybe it was the name or the colors that captured my attention, but I decided I needed to pay a visit to The Big Gay Ice Cream truck while it was out west from NYC. Especially when I read The Actors…

The Best Bite I Ate This Week: Gordon’s Shepherd’s Pie

Gordon? Who’s Gordon? The one and only Gordon Ramsay of Hell’s Kitchen! He recently opened a place at The Grove in Los Angeles called The Fat Cow and we paid him a visit. Not only did we have a great meal, but we were happily surprised to find our friend Dave working there. Don’t let…

Hollywood SWEET Hollywood

On a recent Monday night, rushing through the Hollywood & Highland complex to catch a movie at Grauman’s Chinese Theater, I dragged Matt through the new Sweet! shop on the second level. Whoa! We needed a lot more than 10 minutes, so I’ll be going back very soon. But I had enough time to get…

Mac + Cheese = Comfort Food

With the arrival of Fall and (hopefully soon) cooler temps, my mind and palate lean towards comfort food. One of my favorite dishes in this category is macaroni and cheese. I love it on its own out of the box…or as my Canadian friends refer to it as “Kraft dinner.” But there are many other…

The Best Bite I Ate This Week: Craft – Hand-Cut Waygu Tartare

Trish and I have been watching Tom Colicchio for years judge other on how they cook and present. Well, I had the opportunity to judge the judge. What are my qualification you might ask. First and foremost, I love great food. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. In fact it was hard…
