Summer Time Treats

It’s the first day of summer, hooray! Of course for me, the food lover, the arrival of summer means enjoying (more of) certain types of food. In the good ol’ summertime who can resist… hotdogs, lemonade, s’mores or ice cream. There are several places to get hot dogs here in LA: Pink’s, Carney’s, Papaya King…

Happy Anniversary Sid Grauman

This year marks big anniversaries for both of Sid Grauman’s iconic Hollywood theatres. The Egyptian Theatre situated next to the Pig & Whistle restaurant will be celebrating 90 years in the movie business in October. Originally set to look like a Spanish hacienda, Mr. Grauman changed up the plans when King Tut’s tomb was discovered so he could capitalize on all the Egyptian excitement. Five years after opening the Egyptian, Mr. Grauman debuted the beautiful Chinese Theatre. The first three hand and footprints were set in wet cement to flashing cameras just before the theatre’s grand opening. Now there are about 200 movie stars who have been immortalized in the cement courtyard. Grauman’s Chinese Theatre is offering special movie nights the remainder of the year with pricing reminiscent of the time: 25cents. You can catch Spartacus Tuesday June 12 with…

Dolby Theatre + Disney’s Brave

Today on tour, I noticed the Kodak name was missing from the front of the landmark Hollywood theater that is home to the Academy Awards…I guess that means they are making way for the new Dolby signage. It was announced recently that the newly-renamed Dolby Theater will debut with the premiere of Disney/Pixar’s new feature…

A Big Man Bakes great cupcakes!

So thanks to another of my fabulous Hollywood tour guests, I found a new cupcake shop in Los Angeles. Big Man Bakes is located downtown, on Main Street, across from Pete’s Café & Bar. I was super excited that they were open on Memorial Day Monday because Matt was buying a car only 2 miles…

Pie + Tea

It’s fun being in the tour business, especially because the research can be so tasty! Today I paid a visit to the American Tea Room in Beverly Hills and met the owners of this quaint 9-year-old establishment. I tasted limoncello tea as I walked around the room sniffing little ramekins of tea named after Caribbean…
