The Best Bite I Ate This Week: Cranberry Croissant

Castaway to Cranberry Island. That’s the theme of this weekend’s 66th Annual Cranberry Festival held in the charming coastal town of Bandon, Oregon. You can imagine all the yummy items I’ve sampled over the weekend, with cranberries and without. Cranberry honey, cranberry bread, cranberry cheesecake, cranberry beverages, whole cranberries, dried cranberries and more. But I must say the best bite I ate this week was an item I found at Coastal Mist on 2nd Street. Owned by the talented Kevin, Tara and Nicole, Coastal Mist specializes in artisan chocolates and desserts. Trust me, I’ve had my fair share of their chocolate since they opened their doors a few years ago.

In salute to the weekend’s honorary berry, I sampled a cranberry croissant which resembled a pinwheel instead of a traditional croissant. It was so delicious, I’m glad I ordered several. A sweet and not too tart cranberry filling sat atop a smooth and creamy-cheese dollop placed in the center of the flaky and buttery croissant. Warmed up just slightly, it was cranberry heaven! I shared it with my mom and cousin. But tomorrow I may eat one all on my own.
